Roasting a Pig

The annual Hog Roast was a great success again! I'm not sure how it became "annual" but then I have no real involvement in organising social events - I just do as I'm told!
Here's Carl overseeing the cooking of Herman the Hog. As you can see he's working hard and has had to stop and refresh himself with a beer...

A Grand Day Out!

This was the first of Maria's planned reunions for Lucy's puppies in Bourne Woods. We managed to get three of the litter together: Gertie, Maddie (originally Minnie) & Hattie, all of whom are now taller than Lucy, but not quite as thick through the middle!
As you can see from the pictures it was a bit chaotic because not only did we have the puppies and Lucy but we also had Elsie the retriever and Wilf (Lucy's first boyfriend). Wilf is no longer interested in Lucy but has fallen for the younger model in the form of Maddie and attempted to show her this from every conceivable angle, thus showing that enthusiasm is no substitute for experience! (sorry Wilf!!).
The dogs are all wet because they have just been for a swim in the ponds in Bourne Woods - quite a sight that many Labradors swimming at the same time!!!

A day at the Seaside

Haven't posted for ages mainly because of time but also because I forgot my password!
Yesterday we took Lucy and Gertie to the coast for the first time (for either of them) and here are the pictures.
The journey was a nightmare because Gertie is not a good traveller and whined all the way. That was not too bad, but she also had a poo, a wee and honked up. Thanks.
Good job we had her in a cage but by the time we got there she looked like the type of dog that you normally see roped to a Big Issue seller. But both dogs (and the boys) had a great time.
The boys had a picnic and whilst we took some food for the dogs they didn't get any as I didn't want a repeat on the journey home...
This was at Hunstanton (not sunny) so on the way back we also popped in to Sandringham and let them all have a good run around. By the time we got home the dogs were shattered and our living room looked like the "Boneless Boy Factory".

Out in the Woods

William (the middle son) has now taken up cross country running so we have to get him to school for 8.15am. As a consequence I take Lucy and Gertie for a yomp (remember the Falklands?) in Bourne Woods.
Needless to say this is somewhat akin to dog heaven. Maria's not so keen though as they both come home caked in mud and if they're really lucky they'll have found some fox poo, which to you and I smells like something died a long time ago in a hot place but to them smells like Chanel No 5.

House Training
We're still house training Gertie and it goes fine most of the time but she still has accidents in the night which is maddening. Last night we put her in a small cage and she was fine, though we had to kick Lucy out first! so it's not that small!!
Tonight will be the acid test.. can she go two nights? If she does our conservatory will smell a lot better!

Meg Gets Bigger!

Not posted for a while as I've been a bit busy.

Here's a picture of Meg that Iris sent us this morning. We thought that Gertie was getting big until we saw this!
Lucy has just about got her figure back now following a strict diet and getting back to some serious exercise. Here's a couple of pics of Gertie and Lucy.
Gertie is nearly house trained now but you can see a couple of stains on the carpet where she didn't make it - better get the Vax out!

New Year

First post since Christmas and the puppies have now had all their jabs.
Poor old Lucy cut her paw when we all went sledging last week and had to have it stitched up, so she's pretty hacked off at not being walked.
House training of Jack and Gertie is coming along and they have stopped biting, which is a major result. They did get my fleece off the sofa this morning though, so I now need a new one.
Jack should be leaving us this weeked which will be quite sad as he's a lovely dog. Maria will cry - I guarantee it!
